I have made this image some time ago.
We might just make it a skeleton that when dies leaves a corpse behind so he can be reanimated to become a normal skeleton swordsman

Ancient units are cheaper,but only one turn,and little diffrent to the veteran swordman,becuse it not make fire effect.

Yes, We should avoid overlapping of too many proposals since we have already phantom guard units and veteran skeletons with elemental effects. I think we should make some planning

I would make ancient undeads for all the current undeads (ancient swordsman, spearman and archer) and the veteran versions should be mostly for their magical effects
I wouldn't make ancient vampire since the current one is already 9 cost. An ancient vampire should be double xD
