Melee For Shooters

Can we get a tech that allows for shooter units to be able to attack units right next to them in some way, as most shooter units I know have a minimum range of 2. Like for example allowing them to counterattack or with 1/4 damage or a separate ability allowing them to target nearby enemies with a certain amount of damage dealt. Can't be too good, they are still shooters, but allows them a fighting chance when surrounded.

Just removing the minimum shooting range is fine...

If you think about it... Minimum range doesn't actually make sense unless for balance and game flavour. Cause you can definitely shoot a bow in melee range.

I was mostly thinking about shooters fighting melee, but shooting point blank makes sense to me, too. But would it make them too powerful?

This is made for 2 reasons:
1. To show vulnerability of shooters;
2. To avoid giving some very powerful shooters being able to deal significant damage on counter attacks.

So they will not getting any means to counter in melee (at very least regular archers — might allow this for units with 2 forms one of which is melee).

I have a few other suggestions.

1. Maybe a tech to remove minimum range for shooters (5 turns for all races, maybe 4 for the more militarily advanced ones). Maybe add with it a last strike ability to show shooter vulnerability.

2. A tech that grants shooters an ability to attack nearby units. 5 (maybe 4) turns to research and base damage depends on race:
Human: 10
Orc: 12 (Goblin 10)
Elf: 8
Undead: 9
Dwarf: 11
Scaledfolk: 10 (Draco 12)
This is pretty basic, just to see what the damage would look like. As shown the ability power isn't impressive, and should only be used in desperation. Can be used once every turn.

Still no.
Once again: shooters in our game will not be so good to attack in melee.

Also what is «last strtike» thing?

About last strike, I was just wondering if there was some unit ability making the attacker attack last. Guess not.
