Jumper unit for humans
I was thinking that humans might benefit from a new unit that uses a jump-like ability like the one from the blade dancer.
Do you have any suggestions about that? It might be a mounted unit like the squig rider as well.

How about a kangaroo rider?

Re: Jumper unit for humans
Uhhhmmm, why does human have to have this?
They don't need it, ohh... Their the all rounder I forgot.
I think what they need is a seige tower like in AOS. It works like they can make units inside them jump through buildings and stuff

Re: Jumper unit for humans
The light projection of the wings is like the cult of light that I proposed, the rider on the grasshopper, the man with the grappling hook. I don't know if humans might have jumping mechanisms as dwarfs might need them.
Re: Jumper unit for humans
You can make some kind of winged unit that cannot fly due to small wings but can jump, for example, an ostrich or something mythical.
Re: Jumper unit for humans
Why not instead make a spell for their mages that allows them to teleport a unit to a place.
Re: Jumper unit for humans
A spell like this would be really useful for humans.

Technically not possible right now.

Should be easier to code though over most other abilities.

Re: Jumper unit for humans
Actually no. Because it will require 2 actions:
1. You must choose target unit for teleporting;
2. You must choose target place.
Problem here is that right now spells are made the way so that you can use them in once — not in two actions.
This idea will require a whole revamp of casting system.

Re: Jumper unit for humans
Looks hard but why not just a jump spell? Like a jump buff where the unit will be like on flying buff in a turn.makazuwr32 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 5:17 amActually no. Because it will require 2 actions:

Re: Jumper unit for humans
Here are other probems:
we can't give that easy such abilities.
Yes we have for example unit_property "Can_pass_through_objects". And even this is used on few units (gryfon riders when use their dive attack get ability to pass through all units). But. Problem here is in categories. They are way too outdated. For example if you allow effect for "cheap archers" than Horse archchers of elves and humans also will be affected. If you allow for infantries melee than some melee infantries could not be affected.
Another question is for whom to give such spell. We do not have appropriate caster right now.

Re: Jumper unit for humans
Hmm, could probably make it effect a random unit like a goblin cannon fodder. Only no sacrifices.

Re: Jumper unit for humans
Exactly this i definately do not like.
A buff that chooses random unit is completely uncontrollable.

Re: Jumper unit for humans
Grappling hooks and kangaro-like mounts were one of my first ideas but in the first case I thought it could look weird that the unit can use it in a open field (I know we have other things that defy logic but I prefer to avoid them when possible) while in the second one I was wondering if that could actually look weird.
Maybe the jumping mount might be for the sandwalkers sub (desert dwellers that will be flavoured toward middle-east and india).
About the spell...
We might give them a researchable flight spell, but it might just give them flight and not the high fly effect that makes go over every obstacle.

Hmm, perhaps leap dragons then? (I'm just going out on a limb here)
They could look similar to raptors but with more of a dragon flavor to them.

Re: Jumper unit for humans
No, I think humans have already quite a few dragons, so we might just go for something different. Like squigs they could have cost 4 and slower base speed/stats than actual cavalry.

Actually, riding kangaroos used to be somewhat common in Australia.

That or we could make use of the valkyrie and just make her have the ability to jump.

Ostrich riders maybe?
Or something similar — chocobo-like running bird that can be mounted.

Re: Jumper unit for humans
For winged units I prefer to use the normal flying units behaviour (unless they are land units that can just jump)

Re: Jumper unit for humans
They can have not that long jump but have higher base speed.
Like 5 speed and 3 tiles jump or 6 speed and 2 tiles jump (ofc if jump is possible every turn).
Or they can have some cooldown (once per 2 or 3 turns maybe) for 4 tiles jump.
