No, I made it just slightly bigger than a wardog, because a wardog looks like a greyhound to me, but the Canis Pugnax was bred specifically to perform demanding tasks, and is therefore somewhat bigger. That was my kind of thought process, but I added a black border and now the dog has a bit of a personality

Roman cane corso

Post by Badnorth »

These dogs were famous Roman war dogs. They were trained for a specific purpose on the battlefield and their imposing looks stroke fear in their enemies. They used to be even bigger and they had special armor made especially for them so they could stay alive as long as possible and be shielded from arrows and spikes. The Romans trained these dogs to charge their enemies while carrying flamings buckets of oil on their side. There are many ancient pictures and statues of these dogs in armor and depicted as guardians and companions of Roman soldiers.
Cane Corso dogs were also used for bloodsports in ancient Rome. They were involved in all sorts of blood “entertainment” the Romans had such as bull-fighting, tiger and lion fighting, gladiator battles and dog battles. It is said that 4 Cane Corsos could kill a tiger or a lion.

is there a posibility for this to be added?
btw i think of another warhound for roman
molossus warhound
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molossus_(dog)
the name is much more generic since molossus in taxonomy is a kind of dog not a single specie...
btw, dogs should be able to get into woods...

Adding: as map editor - easily.
As regular unit - I am really reluctant.
In reality no army ever was deploying dogs as a unit.
As far as archeology is convinced - dogs were never used in war en masse, as there were never enough corpses to indicate that.

Sure - Romans trained huge dogs, but as defence of the house, a companion, some especially aggressive species were used in arena fights (Colosseum).
In war - not really.

I am categorising it as something similar to all gladiators propositions, so on a level higher (in realism), than flaming pigs, head hurlers or screamers, but much lower, than tens of topics about real historical units.

Dogs in forests: do we have any?
Look at my reply in Dogs can't enter wagon.

Well, isn't current roman legionary already representative enough of their usage of Architecti among the ranks?
For constructing siege engines and proper buildings workers should be enough.

Unless there is some clever, novel idea, that could use legionaries and new proposed unit for construction.
