Norman lancer too weak ?
Norman lancer too weak ?
Norman lancer costs 5 has 9 damage and has many different bonuses but he can't kill a light cavalry in one hit, while all lancers can . I think he is too weak when compared to other lancers.
And he can't be trained at nordic hall. Only stables

He has some decent anti light infantry bonuses but he's kinda useless against mounted.
As I recall he deals 13 dmg to mounted because he can't kill a light cavalry .

Tbh... He does have Nordic in the description.
It confounds me that he isn't in the Nordic hall either...
According to history, the Normans were the most widespread conqurers of early Europe. They just decided to settle in the lands they conquered instead of returning to their previous homes.

Re: Norman lancer too weak ?
Quite right. If he is Nordic then he should be called Norse Knight. The Normans as a race were the Norsemen who settled in Normandy.
Norman was used as a contraction of Norsemen, but a long time ago. They are two distinct descriptions of origin these days.

This is what I mentioned on the original Norman Knight post Quad made. While originally Norse, after settling in Northern France and mingling with the French for over a hundred years, becoming a duchy of France, adopting the native dialect, they were more French.

For those from places further away, or not familiar with British history, we aren't being pedantic, it is a pretty big distinction. The Norsemen invaded England many times over several centuries, sometimes raiding, sometimes settling. For a long time half of England was in Norse control. Frequently, the kings of the kingdoms that would one day become England paid Danegeld to make these hairy boggers go elsewhere.
The Normans, on the other hand, invaded England just once, and spectacularly so. It was 1066, with the famous Battle of Hastings . It was a total victory. It changed the course of British history.
(Btw Squirrel, I've just come back from 4 days living in the woods and sleeping in my hammock. I was awoken one morning by a squirrel above me dropping nutshells on me. I enjoyed the experience so much I slept in exactly the same place the next night Back in civilisation now - I'll take my turn as soon as I've had a shower)

Re: Norman lancer too weak ?
I just checked - light cavalry has now its own category which is a bummer. A spearman now can't one shot light cavalry. Norman lancer however is a lancer but has idk more bonuses? He's weaker than a lancer but stronger than a Hungarian hussar imho. He's good for finishing units.

Re: Norman lancer too weak ?
What do you have against light cavalry, that you want to always deal with it with 1 strike?
On topic: Norman Lancer is a hybrid unit of knight/lancer.
Worse than both in their respective areas, but more versatile.
He is set as nordic category, because normans were direct cultural descendants of nords.
Just like scottish/irish from celtic.
He is not buildable in nordic hall because of balance.
One special building cannot be that good, so I decided, that Nordic Hall won't have any archers, better mounted, nor any other anti-mounted.
So even if/when any other nordic units will be added - they will be in other buildings.
