Keep units on chariots and elephants alive when the carrier dies

Post by b2198 »

Currently, when chariots and elephants die while carrying units, the units inside them die alongside, and that makes it considerably disadvantageous to keep units in them, specially chariots, since at least elephants usually can tank enough to be able to estimate when is the right time to get the units out, whereas in chariot it depends on guessing which of your chariots your opponent is gonna focus.

Maybe add 1 or 2 extra turns to the researches that enable them to carry, if this change would make them stronger than intended?

Now a bit more thematically: if a unit inside a siege tower, which is a big wooden tower, doesn't die when the tower falls over it, why should it die if the chariot that was transporting it breaks and the rider dies? XD
Green is the correct color, other colors are "less correct".

Flavour: A huge building sized siege tower doesn't crumble immidately, but yet look - only one unit manages to survive.
So it is confirmed to be dangerous on destruction, but probably evacuation path allows just one group of foot soldiers safely exit it in case.
A unit of fast moving not that stable platforms being pulled with horses. Another unit - foot soldiers, which are in most cases more numerous are being carried, so some of them are standing on platforms by two or three and possibly even some are left to ride horses, due to lack of space.
Even if chariot is only carrying normal amount of soldiers (in game - none) - commonly nobody survives.
Why would it change for wider chariots, carrying more?

And more importantly - 3 turn units with 4 speed, having attack and ability on it's own additionally carries another unit, allowing it to also attack.
You have to take some risks.

Even elephant doesn't allow unit carried to survive just not to break general rule - that only buildings and dedicated carriers let carried unit survive.

Ok, fair enough.
