Allow builders to work from a siege mantlet

Post by phoenixffyrnig »

Rather self explanatory - allow workers and labourers to be able to work from relative safety inside. Especially important for repairing siege machinery and for any building work near the enemy.

Obviously it would be somewhat limiting to go about your job in this situation, so probably put a malus, say 1/3 to mend rate of any unit inside.

For now it is not possible due to engine limitations.
Unless you set building as indestructible or show unit inside workers for now can't work from any non-tc buildings and non-bridge-like buildings.
Tunnels of dwarves in aof are working similar to bridges — they show units inside — and because workers can build while on them.

In unity version i think that might be changed though.

Sorry, what do you mean here? Is that a relatively simple thing to do? As in, if changes are needed, would it be easy to create from new say a Sapper's Mantlet that ticked the boxes? Therefore Siege Mantlet and Sapper's Mantlet could be kept out of each others territory if needs be.

No.
There is just no way to make a unit, that carries worker, hides it from damage and allows mending.
Mend action is turned off in hardcoded way in any carrier, even if it allows attack, unless carrier is not TC or has hides unit flag set to false.
Units that don't hide carried ones are e.g. bridges - enemy attacks unit carried first.

Actually if unit is shown when in carrier does not mean that this unit will be damaged when enemy attacks.
In aof we have a setting that bridges are damaged, not units on them.

Wait.
And mend action can be used from them?

Yes workers can use their construction/mending actions.

Alas they MUST be shown.
I mean that your opponent still knows what unit is in that carrier.
