torpedos

Post by Jasondunkel »

I would also like to revise the ranges of the torpedoes
here are examples of how different the ranges are.

JP : Type 93 torpedo
Effective firing range 22,000 m (24,000 yd) at 89–93 km/h (48–50 kn)
Maximum firing range 40,400 m (44,200 yd) at 63–67 km/h (34–36 kn)
JP: Type 95 torpedo
Range of the Type 95 was (for the mod 1) 9,000 m (9,800 yd) at 49–51 kn (91–94 km/h; 56–59 mph), or 12,000 m (13,000 yd) at 45–47 kn ( 83-87km/h; 52-54mph),
GER: G7 (torpedo) 6 kilometers (12 km at 30 kn)
US: Mark 14 torpedo
4,500 yards (4,100 m) at 46 knots (85 km/h)
9,000 yards (8,200 m) at 31 knots (57 km/h)
GB: British 21-inch torpedo
8,000 yards (7,300 m)

I would suggest though to use accurate ones and not just put the best on everything and not putting an airborne torpedo to submarines.

Like one of your example for the Japanese being the type 93 torpedo which is a cruiser and destroyer launch torpedo and not a submarine one.

This sound cool. How are you going to implement it though?

Will the range difference between subs be significant? Even by 1 or 2 tiles, that's quite the difference of range.

As dre pointed out, we need to look carefully at which torpedo is for which class of ship. otherwise the different ranges have been achieved with the same torpedoes only that their speed has been changed and therefore the longer range has been achieved...
for the different ranges i imagine that we then have two icons to choose from. I would like to work with probabilities for the long ranges. The suggestion would be 50:50 chances and a cooldown of 4-5.

we will then probably need new images to store the different torpedoes with their ranges and ship types.

for the russians, french and italians i haven't found any real information about torpedoes

and as you can see above, i only found what is listed for the other nations at the moment. So I couldn't see whether the USA or the British used other torpedoes for the cruiser. if you have any information bring it on. otherwise I would assume that they have taken the same as with the submarines
