Animating unit images/skins

Post by Stratego (dev) »

I think we can think in animating images if they are not that "bothering" for the eyes
these can be
a) default images
b) or skins.

only one rule should be if a unit has animated unit images by deafult than only animated skins it should have i think.
but a non animating default unit can have animating skins (very good ones even legendary type)

my ideas in WW2:
- plane: rotors constant turning
- jetplane: burst animation on move
- ship: "chimney" exhaust gases
- ship: wave motions on sides
- ship: teamcolor flag motions maybe
- tank: exhaust gases
- soldiers: any human movements like holding gun from one hand to other hand, stepping from one leg to other and so on.
- buildings : any unique movement: eg. on airfields few pixel cars towing the few pixel planes and such. barracks some walking few pixel guys around.

It sounds cool to me. I'd be fine with it.

Hmmm. I want to ask for future reference.

If moving weapons is okay then what's wrong with the animation I did for the Archer in AOS?

sorry but i dont really remember, maybe that was too much move(?)
it must be that little move so it will not get bothering to the eye if u have 10 of that unit in a bunch. dont forget here unit sprite is one-third of a unit size in AOS/AOF so any movement will look less movement - i would not suggest "any human movements like holding gun from one hand to other hand" to AOF/AOS for this reason.

yes, this is too much animation to always and continously show.

we an only use such when we have implemented some random rare appearance of idle animations eg. after a minute of being not moved it makes it once or something.

for an always moving thing it can only be a 1 pixel movement of the bow not a total 90 degree turn.

That's why I said "but longer". It was supposed to be an example.

"longer" if u mean "slowly" is not enough, should be much "smaller" movement not "slower" movement.

Why is this added in the suggestion for AOW then?

"any human movements like holding gun from one hand to other hand, stepping from one leg to other and so on."
