Different Attack / Armor Types

Here talk about units and structures.
IMPORTANT!: Every unit type and structure type should be in a separate topic.
So if you have a new unit idea than open a new topic for it!

Different Attack / Armor Types

Post by COOLguy »

I am getting this idea from the AoS 'pierce armor vs. normal armor'. Tell me what you guys think.

There could be different kinds of attack that corresponds to different armors> i.e. "Anti-Air" Attack, "Torpedo" Attack, "Artillery" Attack, etc... corresponding to "Anti-Air" Armor, etc...

So planes have low "Anti-Air" Armor, but high "Normal Attack" Armor. Then, Infantry (which has low "Anti-Air" Attack) can hardly damage a plane, while an anti-aircraft gun (which will have high "Anti-Air" Attack) is much more effective.

All the units will attack by default the corresponding attack type> i.e. Infantry attacks planes with the weak "Anti-Air" Attack, but will attack other Infantry with their slightly stronger "Normal" Attack.

How does this sound? :)
Thanks!

yes, but the engine is capable to handle 2 types of attacks/its armors currently
- arrowed
- normal

in WW2 i never thought we will ever need the arrowed armor type since there is only one type of attack (and armor) there.
But we can figure out one: like "armor pircing" unit, that will neglect normal armor and damage can only be reduced by "pierce" armor.

flying units:
- as in AOS i think we can use "range protection" to flying units
- so no unit can harm a plane that has no bonus to it - its attack can deal only 1 HP damage.
- bonused units eg. anti-artillery, will damage normally on planes (this was the same in AOS the archer had bonus so it damaged normally on ornithopter)

How about armor that protect from explosive attack (tank, grenade, artillery) and armor that protect from bullets (machine gun, rifle, pistol). Example:Armored Truck have high bullets armor but low on explosive armor. Anti Tank Infantries have high explosive armor but low on bullets armor.

ok, i am doing it we will have
armor
X armor (explosion armor), ships, takks, artillery will have such damage, and only close armored units will have high value defense against them, eg. infantry not.

ok, i have it in up on server in 10 minues.

i have explosive attack from mortars/artillery/ships
the rest is normal attack.

question1: which tank should have expliosive attack - i think not all...
question2: which unit should have different explosive/normal armors? my suggestion:
- cars, armored cars, light tanks: bigger normal armor, and NO expl. armor.
- medium tanks: medium in both armors
- heavy tanks: strong on both armors.
- infantry: has no armors at all.
- ships: strong on both armors.

Infantry doesnt have any armor, so it should be damaged by pretty much everything

Tanks should be damaged by normal bullets, only from shells and rockets.

Armored vehicles should take damage from everything. Shells should deal way more damage though.

Aircraft should be damaged from everything.

Marine units shouldnt take damage from bullets.

There are AP and APCR shells that are used to pierce armor. In the other hand, there are HE shells that are basically explosive shells and kill infantry.
Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.
