Energy shields

Post by Sunrise Samurai »

Gives certain units (tanks, spacecraft, and anything else big enough to have a shield generator) and some buildings a 10/20/30% dodge chance against basic "ranged" attacks (even if the range is 1, it counts as ranged if it is a gun or laser type weapon.) Anything supposed to be melee attacks or to bypass shields will ignore the dodge chance.

Just realized midonik already posted a shield idea. Given how dodge didn't exist back then, I think this is a better idea anyway than merely adding armor.

It will make big unit destoyeabke only by units with huge attack (and it will be slow) or by units with bonuses (is bonus applyed before damege reduction or after?). Its sounds like good idea to buff your tanks, ships, and buldings into hard to destroy fortresses. It seems good, but should have high cost and mayby we seperate tech for each unit type (vechicules shields, ship shields, factory shields, etc),and mayby it should be researched in special buliding. Also,it will be for all races?

All technology based races. It is based off the AoF dodge techs. Attacks against units with dodge have a chance of doing no damage.

It doesn't change armor values at all, just gives a chance to avoid all damage from each hit, individually.

we will need a new machanic for that. a new "hp" like thing that is the shield status that decreses with attacks and increases automatically(?)

That sounds like a good idea, but it might be simpler to just use the existing dodge mechanic as I proposed
