Vought F-8 Crusader

Post by Shark guy 35 »

Single engine, single seat air superiority fighter built for the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps. It was the last aircraft designed to engage primarily with it's guns, which consisted of 4× 20mm Colt autocannons. Despite this, most victories were achieved with air to air missiles. Although difficult to fly, it served with distinction in the Vietnam war, achieving a 19:3 victory ratio, the best of any aircraft fielded by the United States. Reconnaissance versions continued to serve until the 1980s, where they played a key role in the Cuban Missile Crisis. Overall, it was a good aircraft that was overshadowed by other fighters of the era, such as the F-4 Phantom II.
