Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II

Post by Shark guy 35 »

And now, for a plane that needs no introduction...
Originally developed for CAS operations in Viet Nam, it entered service too late to see any combat.
However, it found a new role as a tank buster that could defend Europe in the case of a Red invasion. After the dissolution of the USSR, it was used again for close air support in conflicts during the 90s and 2000s. It has became legendary in status due to it's durability (one flew home without an engine! :o ) and the famous BRRT sound of the 30mm rotary cannon. The U.S.A.F has no plans to retire it anytime soon, and is expected to serve until the 2040s.

Brrrrrrrt :Q
You know a neat fact
That if you were the one targeted by the rotary gun you wouldn't live to hear the brrt because of the speed of sound.

The plane I don't think ever had a Camoflauge, or really need it because you never saw it coming...
