New Terrain needed - hill elevations IMPLEMENTED

Post by Stratego (dev) »

In aow and aomw we very in need of a terrain decoration that is looking like a hill elevation like the image below.
we have one the Cliff and Cliffsnow but those are too "thick" even in AOW they are 2x2 3x2 tile sized.
we need one that is 1x1 tile sized and can be conented any any way to draw any shape of elevation "barrier".

to be honest: in ALL alternatives there should be such elevation by default.

another, free but maybe not that awesome it could be:

wait i just realized that the current water-grass transition has some similar elevation on the shore - maybe by removing water and grass parts we are done! what do you think?

ok we have this in game already
We have planned 2 types
1. mild elevation (passable in AOS but slows a little.)
2. steep elevation (non passable in AOS)

Steep

For steep we have a final appearance for AOF and AOS:

Mild

but for mild elevation we have these ideas / variations please
a) tell us which direction is the best
b) tell us if you can help making it better :)

version1: like just shading:
Image

version2: made from steep version by removing some part and keeping only black parts
Image

version3: the shaded one with some extra: cracks + bright side is brighted and such (not final, just concept, eg on corners needs some work and cracks are a 3 minute conceptual only)

imo version 3 is better than 2 and 1, because it's clearer to see that those are slopes compared to the other 2
Green is the correct color, other colors are "less correct".

For me, the third version looks best too.

Version 3 still needs some work, 1 is my favorite(but it looks like a depression instead of a hill), but 2 looks too much like steep cliff.

My specific critique for version 3 is:

The darkened tiles are opposite to the directions of the unit's shadows. They should be facing south. The lightened sides should face north.

Also the contrast (specifically between the end of darker sides and regular tiles) is too much imo.
