Regarding spells and mage attacks

So I was thinking of two things considering that future units most likely will be along the lines of mages, siege, heroes, buildings and sea. The two being in this topic:

1)Certain mages melee attack.

2)offensive spells and spell resist.



1)Mages melee attack-
Some mages need an alternative melee attack rather then trying to hit the enemy maybe just give them a magic spark for basic attack. This only applies to certain mages without a weapon e.g. Mage and orc shaman.

That was the principle of the magic arrow spell, anyway I think that mages are already good as they are and they should be mainly useless without their spells

Some exceptions are the warmage, the bladesinger the cleric and the druid that are hybrid melee/casters (in D&D they are called gishes) ant they are meant to be costly units because they are skilled in both magic and fighting and generally use their magic more as a support effect that a main attack

No, no, no, they would still suck at melee, this just gives them a different melee attack for certain units without weapons. Right now an orc shaman has aoe 1 and shoots an arrow and troll shaman shoots an arrow too. I'll show you the units that I had in mind:
Mage
Warlock
Troll shaman
Orc shaman
Necromancer
Lich
And I believe that's all. It would still be considered a melee attack but just a different look to make things reasonable.

Ah.
Just different looking melee attack without changes in stats?

I agree, it does look wierd to see a mage attacking with an arrow.

Agreed but how many units is that to change attack sprite?
And does this have sound or no?

I'll look for a sound maybe if needed, but units to be effected would be:
Mage
Orc shaman
Troll shaman
Orc warlock
Lich
Necromancer
Mummy
Skeleton mage
Kobald shaman
Kobald conjurer
Druid
Elf wizard

An I missing anyone in game already?

It is possible to add a arrow-like animation to their melee attacks anyway
