How do you want this to work?
We already have line infantry etc. This just seems clunky, unnecessary, and you refuse to explain it to anyone.

you can use the sprite i sent in the english units max, also
I think this can work like the pavise xbowman were it gets bonuses while deployed but it cannot move

If anything, in medieval shield walls, pike formations, so on, men would be even more crowded than line infantry.
I think it would be fine as a pavise transformation thing, not a whole separate unit or whatever you are trying to say.
On another note shouldnt there also be a transformation to equip bayonets, until they became standard and didnt have to be plugged in? There should be a tech that does that

I had the same idea, squirrel. But it would be more work (sprites) and complicated for the idea.
It has already been decided. No transformation for standard infantry...
They will be melee attackers with shoot ability

If anyone would want a line infatry. What if a tech?
A tech which would allow unit to go into each other's place. Like Inf unit going to the exact place of another Inf unit and the Sprite would change into a whole line infantry with the same ability but different stats.
Well, that's maybe for the future but I think this is possible cause pretty much that is how some buildings work.

Is it really needed for now? I mean in the future maybe this could be done but for now...
Also AOS actually also should have this but they dont and I don't see the priority for this.
