Unity version unit selection form/dialog
please suggest how the unit selection form/dialog (eg. selecting unit/tech for production/later same for mapeditor)
should look like and how it should work.

Re: Unity version unit selection form/dialog
I like current selection of units. In both forms.
Alas i would like if that selection had possibility to sort units depending on categories so when you need for example "foot" units or "shooter" units you will not need to search through whole list of available units in the list.
I will think more later.

Re: Unity version unit selection form/dialog
Maybe they could be more categorized?
Like flying would be different from melee or range finally
I also like how easy it is back then to select team in map editor but now it's more cumbersome.

Re: Unity version unit selection form/dialog
If a unit production is set and it has used some turns for its production and a different unit is clicked to be produced in the primary production over that unit, then it will show a confirmation message so that the turns used the production of the previous unit are not lost.
This thing is very important.

i am getting close to make this view so
in this topic i look for appearance and work of the appearing objects
what i read so far as suggestion
- look same as now
-- a list/grid if unit types on left
-- on right : filterable by categories (not the 4 as currently but more detailed categories)
-- on top: textual filter also as currently
-- (on right somewhere: if used from mapeditor than the Color chooser too (to which player to add it))
that is all?

Re: Unity version unit selection form/dialog
Additional:
Ability to choose skins (on right maybe?) for units in map editor. For ai controlled ones at least.

Re: Unity version unit selection form/dialog
i am on this now, last chance the change something
for now i make the current appearance,so:
-- a list/grid if unit types on left
-- on right : filterable by categories
-- on top: textual filter also as currently
-- (on right somewhere: if used from mapeditor than the Color chooser too (to which player to add it))
+ confirmation dialog if you lose turns by changing production.

Nice one, I've lost a bunch of turns to that XDStratego (dev) wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 8:22 am + confirmation dialog if you lose turns by changing production.
Not sure if it's in the scope of these changes here, but maybe add the option to search by spec and etc., like suggested in the "Unit Selection (in help)" topic here too?
Also maybe specifying at the top if you're choosing current production or queued production?
Green is the correct color, other colors are "less correct".

i dont understand, what do u mean here? Also maybe specifying at the top if you're choosing current production or queued production?
Re: Unity version unit selection form/dialog
I meant having something in the unit selection to distinguish between these productions:
Green is the correct color, other colors are "less correct".
Re: Unity version unit selection form/dialog
Also when u are selecting the unit for the production something that says: "u ate selectint current production" or "u are selcting queue production"

Re: Unity version unit selection form/dialog
there could be a "title" on the upcoming buildables list (the many unit icons to chose from) but that text would take space - is that worth it?
i thought the smaller icon symbolises the next production nicely, but maybe it is just me.

Re: Unity version unit selection form/dialog
What if we will show it in form of additional icon?
Arrow looking down will mean current production and arrow looking right will mean next production. As example.

It more about on already opened unit selection.Stratego (dev) wrote: ↑Thu Mar 17, 2022 7:33 am there could be a "title" on the upcoming buildables list (the many unit icons to chose from) but that text would take space - is that worth it?

You are never 100% what you clicked.
So anything passed to unit selection window would be informative - single symbol, icon, title - whatever to indicate what was actually clicked without the need to close it and make sure.

Re: Unity version unit selection form/dialog
i am here now
there is a title saying what are you doing
als the title will vanish if the search button is pressed so editbox and checkboxes for name/category/specunitations filter will appear there.

Am I the weird one or the three swordsman have three different looking heads.
Re: Unity version unit selection form/dialog
Probably a graphical setting thing that needs to be set for Unity (not sure which one exactly, though, but I've had a similar problem in Godot in the past, and the fix was like that).
Green is the correct color, other colors are "less correct".

Re: Unity version unit selection form/dialog
no, this is graphical filtering thing, on 64px the same problem will occur once the image showed in different size, this is graphical or texture loading setting i have yet figured out how to set.
Re: Unity version unit selection form/dialog
I saw unity pixel games lower than 32px. I think it's still alright.

Re: Unity version unit selection form/dialog
also a way that will not ruin the team coloring feature (as i had to change the filter earlier as in unity all textures are loaded designtime, and i had no chance to change colors later because the filter blurred out the teamcoloring - so it was no longer temacolor (all units were partly pink)Stratego (dev) wrote: ↑Fri Mar 18, 2022 7:20 am no, this is graphical filtering thing, on 64px the same problem will occur once the image showed in different size, this is graphical or texture loading setting i have yet figured out how to set.

However good news this one dialog seems ready for factory and "worker" productions/constructions. you can check in the unity-dev version.

also
new features that not exists in android version
- category filter is auto-filtered (only categrory appear that will contain units - so eg. in barrack you not see the mounted category)
- textfilter on specunit action and categories also (selectable) - as on image above
