Shouldn't the version with shorter sword (gladius) be used?

I already sayed the sword should be smaller so yes the Roman with the Gladus should indeed be used

I think that if you could clear up the image a bit (the old images have the lines defined more clearly) than I would say it would be ready to be implemented.

They are not bad, although the Legionairre's sword bothers me somehow. It looks almost like a dagger honestly. Idk, maybe it is just me...

Nice redesigning the roman legionnaire
If you redisign spartan hoplite I recommend just a round shield with his spear and an awsome cape

I guess a round metallic shield would look more beautiful on the spartans. The current redesign one has too much of a wooden look.

But I don't feel strong about this opinion whatever is fine.
