Dwarf ranger — ARCHIVED
A highly trained dwarven unit, equipped with both an axe for melee combat as well as a crossbow. Similar to human skarn.

Re: Dwarf ranger
Not good idea.
1. Will require higher cost than normal for almost same stats. For dwarves in ranged form this unit probably will have attack/range stats like current crossbowman, in melee form — attack will be like current axeman (3 turn), and health will be around current swordman (3 turn). Cost will be around 7 turns.
Is it worth that?
2. Another problem here is tiers. This unit will be even slower to upgrade because he will require both melee and ranged techs to upgrade.

Re: Dwarf ranger
When I said holding an axe I meant more like the dwarven warriors. And it would be a stealth unit.

Dwarf assassins with an ax and a pistol look strange.

Re: Dwarf ranger
It would have ability to switch between melee and ranged modes.

Re: Dwarf ranger
In general double stance units are a bad idea in this game. They end up being too costly to be actually useful (a single unit is easy to kill and sometimes it is just better to make 2 cheaper specialist units than a costly versatile unit).Shark guy 35 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 11, 2020 3:47 am It would have ability to switch between melee and ranged modes.
I think that an axe bayonet (or a gunaxe) might work decently. They could just use melee as a normal attack and ranged as an activated ability.

Re: Dwarf ranger
That might be a serious concept:
The unit itself might be 5/6 cost unit with stats similar to the ones of a axeman (maybe a bit lower) and a ranged ability (it might be some kind of shotgun as I see it hardly as something useful for sniping).
The ability might have, at base, range 3 and powerrange 1/50%. Upper tiers could have a better version (improving damage/range/powerrange).

Maybe just make a rifle with a bayonet knife?

Re: Dwarf ranger
Stats of scarn without invisibily, cost 9-10 turns than.
First of all rifleman is planned as advanced shooter unit for defenders. Without bayonet or any other weapons but instead with deployable shield (- all speed, + armor in shielded form, no additional bonuses).
For slayers alas there is planned a unit with blunderbuss (low range, not good attack but high aoe). Because slayers will have for priority attack over toughness (both health and armor i mean in this case) this unit will not have any upgrades for armor but will have few upgrades for health and also can get second weapon (axe for example). No stealth alas.
