Big Bertha — ARCHIVED

Post by Savra »

Big Bertha
Build at kingdom under the mountain.
Cost:8
Hp:30
Atk:25
Rng:9
Aoe:2
Sight:9
Spd:1 can't move in forests
Arm:1
P.arm:6
Res:30%
Bonus to buildings, giants
Same miss chance as trebuchet only you can't lower miss chance through upgrades.
Damage might be lowered, hits units for physical. It can't hit flying as easy.

Basically a big cannon, not a tank or anything.

Updated. This way we can move the mortar to the siege workshop and replace with something more powerful.

Not too sure on that
Mortar is a ranged unit not a siege regardless of weapon
I think this should be in siege workshop with high cost.

Hmm, still could work as a unit for siege workshop. It's like a ranged unit that shells enemies who sit behind their walls. It works somewhat like a dwarven catapult or dwarven version of goblin cannon fodder. This unit would be more worth setting in kingdom under the mountain since it acts more like a dwarven trebuchet.

Then why not cannon be buildable in both siege workshop and Mountain for dwarves.

I believe the the only reason trebuchet isn't buildable no where else is cause they have yet to put in human workshop like in aos otherwise im sure it would be in workshop also for humans

Moreover I can't see a ranged unit ( not siege ) being in workshop,
Workshop should only produce non living things
Not living units

Yah, Humans need the rest of their buildings and units accessible now, plus their techs. They're kinda needing them now and it gets annoying having to rely on your tc's for siege units.

Btw if we can't stick morterman in siege workshop, why not shooting range? Makes more sense.

I agree on this

That's what I was leading to for morterman
He's ranged after all so yes It does make sense

Lower damage 20 - 15

And why would this unit have bonus to giants?
( If human trebuchet has bonus to giants ignore them question above )

Actually I thought the mortar had bonus to giants? This is like a heavy one for building destroying purposes. But I don't want stats to be as low as a trebuchets we need it somewhat higher.

Alright so:

Trebuchet is 10

Giant Marksmen is 20

Both are trebuchet units only I think marksmen has higher miss chance.

So we could settle for 15-20.

I think marksmen has aoe 1 though and big bertha has aoe 2 so we might go with 15.

I don't like this one as well. For such a famous name such a low damage and pretty low range. Also don't use this name for dwarven units.
Instead i am suggestiong a cannon unit with transformation ability:
1 - cannon ball charged - high damage, high accuracy (5% miss chance only), high bonus to buildings, high range.
2 - grapeshot charged - low damage, high inaccuracy, high aoe (power range 2-3), low range (up to 5 max), bonus against infantries, cavalries.

Nono.
Big Bertha was named after woman and why dwarves will name cannon after human woman?

It's a joke like name, it doesn't have to be serious, think it like dwarves put colloquial names to their powerful machines as a small humour

I don't like still name and i am against it.

Also i think that normal cannon (my suggestion) will be much better.

Name stays, state seem much simpler to make for this unit too. It is more worth the cost and besides, it is supposed to be considered the "mother of all cannons"

I've seen games that have dwarves biggest cannons be called big bertha with similar descriptions, it's not unheard of.

I'll probably make a new image that is bigger.

@Alexander82 what's your thoughts on these cannons? I tried keeping them simple.
