Mithril guard — ARCHIVED

Post by Menselot »

At the deep rooms of the dwarfen strongholds the mithril guards furfil their oaths as the ever watching eyes of the ancient keeps. As their name describes they wear one of the thickest and most well crafted suits of armor in the whole world. To possess such an armor is a great honor but comes at a huge cost because the guard must spent most of his years protecting the passageways and tunnels of his keep sacrificing a normal life to protect others.

Stats :
Cost: 5 turns
Health: 50
Armour: 4
Damage: 16-18
Armour piercing: 4
Speed: 3
Sight: 5
Action/turn 1/1
Power range: 1
Spell resistance: 50%
Builder: dwarven barracks, Kingdom under the mountain

No unit receives a bonus against him
standart bonuses against buildings
50% bonus against giants

Everything with the form of x-y are values that we can choose...

Possible changes for the name: grommil guard, ironbreakers.

Abilities (everything is subject to be changed or removed.
Also some of these abilities could be added as technologies):

a) Flash bomb
- 3 range
-free action
- 4-5 turns cooldown (common? cooldown with "blasting charges")
- stuns an enemy for one turn and reveals the area around him ( reveals 6-8 blocks around the targeted unit )

b) Blasting charges
- 5-7 turns cooldown (common? cooldown with "flash bomb")
- 2-3 range
-free action
-Everything in 1 radius from the targeted unit suffers 7-15 damage and gains the burning effect.

c) Hold guardian (not an a ability but an effect ?) {this may be a good idea ....or not you decide}
If the dwarf is further than 1-2 blocks from a dwarfen stronghold, kingdom under the mountain or city he loose 2-4 armor and gains 1 movement and sight (this is why he removes his armor and helmet and wears a common armor)

This unit is inspired by:
The original mithril guard (lotr)
The ironbreakers (tww2)

Without cost is difficult to judge. Also the dwarven defender fits the same role so we might use the mithril theme for techs.

Yeah. Mythril theme for techs. Though I do like the idea of limiting the sight range of dwarves.

I disagree about dwarven sight. Dwarves have one of the best sight in d&d. They've got darkvision that allow them to see in complete darkness

1) Mithril for techs ? I like the idea of the dwarfs taking a technology for increasing their armor but naming it "mithrill armor" is silly .... How can the dwarfs afford all their basic soldiers to have a suit of armor made from mithril ? If such a tech is made it must be named differently.

2)There is a difference between:
- How well a dwarf can see in darkness and at short distances.
-And the range of their sight .

Example : in the book "hobbit" the dwarfs ask bilbo to get up the tree because he can see better.
Evolution makes creatures that live in dark places to develop their sight with results of huge eyes that end to be completely blind ( just like Gollum ).

1) for the same reason orcs can swarm kings

2) all units have generally sight equal to speed+1 or range+1

1) you basically can have more kings than other units (so the fact that having all in mithril don't makes sense)

2) It was simply cause you were speaking about dwarves having a bad sight so I answered. Can't see the problem.

I think the second pic is showing mithril more than first, the first looks like regular Iron Mountain iron

also as you can see at the image that I have posted (from total war third age reforged) the upper part of the axe is made by iron something that makes sense (because we do not want the axe to break by the use)
still thanks for your opinion :)

Yes. All dwarves absolutely must have beards unless specified as female.
