Banner bearer - IMPLEMENTED

Post by ejm29 »

A unit holding a banner with the players team colour on it, all allied units within 2 tiles of him get +1 attack.
I made some quick stats, but nothing solid :)
Attack 2
Armor 1
Pierce armor 3
Speed 2
Cost 8
Resistance to conversion, 100%
Sight 3
Has bonus against; 50% against light cavalry
Units that have bonus against him; 2) 10% all infantry
Built in tc, barracks, castle?

Any thoughts?

Very cool, brah!! The speed should be higher, though...it isn't weighed down with weapons...

But the banner and shield would be a lot heavy than a bow or sword?. ;)

I don't know about you, but I've never seen a wooden flagstaff that weighed 13 kilos (average weight for a medieval broadsword...)

I don't mean extreme speed, but 3 isn't unreasonable...

And yes, he needs a bonus against some unit type...

@Patroid, nice! The banner is a lot more visible that way.
@max, I suppose it depends on size, but in general I think your probaly right :)

Yes much better! :)
The banner can go above 32p.
and his arm and leg appear a bit flat.
Thanks!

image: i suggest start from an existing nice unit from the great unit template i posted in introduction.
ability: i think he is not a war guy, he can not even fight well so no bonus needed for him, the +1 to all units around is enough to build him.

Life??

8 turns is too too much. Just thinking aloud, I think I would not use it. It's easier to build a blacksmith and then technologies to give +1.

For 8 turns the banner bearer should have long life and also more range for the +1 attack.

These are my thoughts. Would you use it with the current stats?

Well, we don't know his hp yet, but you're right, 8 turns may be a bit overkill. (However, remember that these are in addition to those techs and more than one can be used.)
Thanks!

more than one +1 giving is too op i think.
i think 1-2 bearer in an army is enough, and they should give +1 only once even they have overlapping area (like the orc leader in AOF)

Ok then maybe 8 is too expensive - maybe 6-7? Depends on his hp...
Thanks!

6 turns sounds reasonable, but the bonus has a very limited range, so why limit it to 1 or 2 turns? Also, Daniel, i meant a defense bonus against some unit type--as you said, he's a non-combative unit...
