A slinger that is roman... Roman slinger
Currently, Romans do have the balearic singers which are indeed powerful but currently, they can't follow the army and will more so not do so because of the nerf they will be getting. They are also excluded in the other roman buffs making them less useful later on. Since they are also mercs, they have certain time limit also.
So instead, why not a roman slinger? I did read some articles which said that Romans did use singers... Not sure if they are all balearic slingers as there are no mentions of it but they are just called roman slingers.
Regarding stats... I'm still not too sure.

Roman slinger
Re: Roman slinger
Probably any army up to the times of common gunpowder weapons (or maybe up to cheaper prices of any small, easily portable ranged weapon) had some soldiers using slings (e.g. those growing up as herders).
Also velites would probably often have bows or slings in addition or replacing javelins.
But as far as I know there were no regular roman army consisting of slingers.
Only mercenaries.
As romans are not designed to be any specialist in ranged battle - I believe saggitarius unit should be enough as regular unit.
If anything - it's rather something anti-building anti-siege machines, that could have roman bonuses.

Re: Roman slinger
So does that mean, it's ok to make it a chance thing like the other ones?
But in all honesty, I just want a main anti heavy besides cavalry that is not costly.
You mean a new unit or the basic ones cause Romans already have an advantage against other troops in the availability of siege machine units specifically trebuchet
Re: Roman slinger
Nah.
Velites were just pretty irregular, so I mean, that in one unit represented by guy with javelin there would in reality be some slingers or archers.
I realise that it could be making it too much, but in all honesty their main force against heavy infantry was ... heavy infantry. But in all honesty, I just want a main anti heavy besides cavalry that is not costly.
In fact - they were very often thrown against each other during all later times.
Maybe classic heavy infantry in general should have damage bonuses against each other?
Not overly high, but something to allow a little better breaking through the armor - 20-25% ?
Or maybe constant one of 2?
Yeah, but what if they also did have some small bonus to catapult / ballista siege mode damage? You mean a new unit or the basic ones cause Romans already have an advantage against other troops in the availability of siege machine units specifically trebuchet

Re: Roman slinger
Actually have thought of this but decided to go against cause it might be too much already. Not sure with the percentage but them cancelling each other out seems nice.
Then that means it would either mobile (or have longer range which seems unlikely).
Though TBH, I like this cause another weak thing to Romans is their anti siege.
They are good in holding tc though.
Re: Roman slinger
To be true to the historical flavor - romans had 3 main things as advantages:
- remarkable army structure, allowing to have huge number of heavy infantry working together and cheaper to deploy
- great organisation and infrastructure to back it off, so superior logistics, construction
- military engineering technology taken from others and developed further, allowing to use amazing siege engines in great number and often better efficiency
Great number of latter were possible only thanks to their sheer size, but it could be concluded, that romans should have some advantage in siege engines department.

Re: Roman slinger
I thought them being greater at siege would be like a thing that will be based on the player for this game but indeed on this idea. This logic fits.
I guess the 1st one is already in game. The second one seems kinda in game already with quicker mega than others.
