New axe thrower appereance IMPLEMENTED

Put here any ideas, suggestions about redesigning unit/building graphics.

Although I like new design better, axe thrower may seem a little too tall (not as much as hatamoto which looks really out of place, especially comparing to elephants). His brown parts could also be lighter.
Something like this (repositioned, recoloured, left hand shortened by one pixel line, original image by StormSaint373):

axe thrower: imho it looked
a) a bit tall comparing to other units
b) the cloth seems not real and not real colored, it was too browny imho, was not metal armoring on it nowhere
c) and maybe was a little weak looking the man, looked a little thin, not that thick - but not sure.

other than that was looking good!

Endru1241 : looks good! please post here the original StormSaint image too so we can see the differences! thanks!

I think the lighter brown with thicker lines looks best.

Seriously? Current Templar + upgr image is one of the best in game. While I agree it may look kinda out of place, the reason is that most of images are very simple and, well, two dimensional. Just look at the weapons and shields in most units - they are often vertically positioned icons pasted on older/base unit - there is no perspective - it's like ancient egyptian hieroglyphs. While this game is tbs and graphics are one of the least important things, I am mostly content with current looks (with few exceptions).
But please, people - do not stop the progress. StormSaint373 made an amazing job especially by making templar shield. Maybe a little refinement could be made to fit these images with the game better, but the base is great.

Sorry @LordOfAles , but these images are just a step back imho.


As I look at StormSaint373 images the greatest difference with standard game skins are a pair of enormous feet, gigantic calfs placed on weirdly shaped legs (which by the way I used in my images of Samurai and Skirmisher lines).

As for the statement of looking out of place...

The only reason it may look as such is because there isn't other units of it's ilk in yet...

Personally, I planned for the holy units to look similar and to give it a "set" look.

As swordsman, pike, and knight look similar
Archer, longbow in another
Atl atl and blowdarter for another,
And so on...

And I myself fully support your Templar images.
It's just that I am afraid of Templar images being reverted (like axe thrower) , so I advocate to ask for little changes if it's people don't like some skin. Not reverting or straight changing it fully on the spot.

templars: I like new templars, i dont even know how it could be improved, but if any new shading or stuff goes on it i will update it. so i will not revert it to original.

axe thrower: yes, i have reverted it because in game i myself felt it different than other units already ingame somehow - i am waiting an image (even the new approach can be) that fits, and that is modified as i have suggested in 4-5 bulletpoints for new axe thrower

That was my plan, but got a little busy with jsons.
And skirmishers redesign is still in open discussion.
I may have to correct it.

i was on vaation for a week thats why i didnt react till yet.
its nice that my first rough sketch got implemented immedietly but it wasnt ready yet ...

here is the templar somehwat finished- one wers body armor ontop of the white templayr cloak one below.

Hi,
Templar Upgrade dealt with aswell.

The problem with those newer image is. theay lack contrast, color vareity and shading.
tha figueres and positioning is better but when the rest misses its just like a blank 3d model.

The old style was sybolic the new thing is that people here try to get realistic 3d images or atleast a try to get anything similar to something like that.
since we only got a canvas of 32*32 symbolism is the better choice in my opinion since we simply dont got enough space to fill
in massvive detail and textures.

and now the thirs thing here.
axe thrower.

Historically there were 3 kinds of axe thrower that come up in my mind first and thath pop up on google as first results.
Native amreican, gaul and germanic tribes.

Since the current one is more germanic/gauly i went for that approach.

Due to limited time those are not fully finalized - Tell me if i should finish one of them.
Should i add the standard blue warpaint of gauls?

brown gaul for basic one and german for upgrade!
Also shaded templars do look better.

i could not follow templars which is to put where - if someone can name the image as they are in game and post only the ones to update - would be awesome ! :)

Helm actually looks better, but plz revert to current shield. That one bends toward the bottom. Like it has been warped by flame.

As for the axe thrower... That's a difficult choice for me.
