Here's an idea... The same way that TCs are randomly placed on random maps, do you think that the same could be done with random monsters? People travel across maps, and trigger these encounters like actual RPGs. For random maps only.
Idea how to execute...
Make a list of units/monsters/buildings to be spawned by this trigger.
Make it like TC in regards of random placement.
Have setting single fire spawn/ repeat spawn/ no spawns.
Have spawned units be Hostile-Neutral, like bandits, so the fun with them doesn't stop when you destroy their base!
Tell me what you think.

That's why it would be a setting!
In late game, I have more units than I know what to do with, so I stuff then in towers, or end up marching them all the way across the battlefield. This gets annoying. So it would be fun if there was a "surprise" that tags you and keeps you from the long monotonous march . And it allows for continuation of gameplay.

How about just randomly placed hostile neutral buildings that be grouped in a certain spot or something?
