Golithos — ARCHIVED

Post by MightyGuy »

Golithos|Ogre: It Is Strong and Best For Destroying Structures. Ogres are very large, tall and fearful humanoid beasts. Ogres are closely linked with
giants and with human cannibals in mythology. Ogres are mentioned in the fairy tales of hobbits in The Hobbit .

I wouldn't add another big one for the orcs.
Orcs already have the cave troll, the ettin and the hamletback

The cave troll it's more like a ogre than a d&d orc (it's the troll from lotr) so i wouldn't make another unit that overlaps with it.

I agree :)

Just let's make sure that they don't overlap one with the other
We should find a role for that unit

Ranged Units can not resist this ogre, His skin is hard and however it has a weakness in infantry
units if they are interdependent.

What about those stats:
Cost:5
Hp 50
Attack Power:16
Range:2 (Giant unit with huge club)
Armor:2
Pierce Armor:4
Speed:4 (tall giant)
Sight:7
Spell Resistance: 50%
Trample (like elephant)
Bonus:
1000% against towers, walls
2000% against mega buildings
400% against factories
200% against wooden units
100% against archers
Can walk in shallow waters (speed halved) (it was suggested for every giant unit and i think it might be a good way to defend against ships)

Wait a second. 160 damage against walls and towers. Rendering basically all fortifications useless against a 6 turn unit.

It's always a melee unit.
To take down something you stil need to hit it.
With a catapult or an ent siege you start hitting the unit from far away and across protections like mountain.
Altough it might seem a pretty high damage (it is) you still need to make this unit reach the target in a melee range. You can actually stop this unit by putting other units between that and the target. This isn't something you can do against other kind of siege units.

One of the reason for whom orcs still sucs is their lack of effective options againste certain kind of enemies (like ships and fortifications). The only current siege weapon is a simple infantry unit that can be easily killed from a distance before reaching the target.
This one is a melee unit too, it is a dedicated unit made only for that purpose (there are better units if you plan to fight a battle) and will have the same problem of the previous one.

Also damages and costs are balanced too:

A orc crusher has 6 attack and cost 2. If you multiply it for 2,5 (to reach the cost of 5) you obtain 15. The bonus is the same and it just have a extra 1 attack. Seems pretty balanced to me.

Health and speed in correlation to damage is what I'm worried about. What will kill this thing on a map with few obstacles. I think only undead would be safe

To be honest, I must lean towards the side of caution with Hardeep. Orcs are already completely overpowered against fortifications imo, as literally 2 orc warriors and and orc mage can take down a wall/fortress in 2 turns practically.

Walls and fortifications are supposed to be good early game to prevent rushing, defend important areas, and force your opponent to take the time to research and get some sort of siege weapons, which buys you time to plan some sort of game strategy. I have noticed that with orcs, they can almost always rush you, and fortifications are useless even against a couple of cheap orc fodder units.

I fear that this unit will just make the problem even worse. There is currently very small reason to build fortifications against orcs, but this may make it so there is no reason whatsoever.

Hey guys, orcs are still melee. If you are playing with elves or humans and orcs reach your walls you have made something wrong. Also both elves and undeas can slow units. I don't see the problem.

When a human build a catapult can easily dispose of groups of orc and make impossible for them to reach your base.
It seems already pretty difficult for orc to destroy a wall compared how easy is for elves and human to take down your buildings from afar...

Not trying to beat a dead horse, but...

I think catapults (anything ranged) is a great way to kill orcs. However, the problem is that it is almost impossible to have the time to research/build catapults in the midst of an orc rush, because almost all human units are more or less inferior to orc units in strength, and building walls/forts to make time is almost an impossible strategy to play against a human orc player.

The best strategy to defeat orcs is to make a ton of ranged and avoid making them near you. If you want to engage them in melee you're going wrong.

Building something during a rush is not easy for every race, for example building a ettin when you have 20 fire archers taking down every factory isn't nice.

Also the best orc units are those who cost much (there is no point to make a ton of weak melee units cause they can't attack all at once and are just cannon fodde) so the best way to defeat orcs is to go annoying them with ranged units befor they can build a army of big ones (the only strategy to go for a orc player) or use many spellcasters to disable their strong units and dispose of them from afar.

That said it is right that a big siege ogre can take down a tower with an attack because is what is meant for, and if you have many ranged and some debuffer you won't be pissed by his presence.

I'm playing a lot online and i still think that orcs are at disadvantage for their lack of options. I hope that a couple of units i've made might help a bit but unless you play a long game where you can build many costly units orcs still suffer a lot against other races.

Any race should be able to handle with the others. If orc strenght is melee (that is a disadvantage cause you can only attack unit in a very low range) you need high stats that make you excel at that thing

Mighty try editing your image a bit (it seems a bit too slender) and remember that you shouldn't go over 32 pixel wide and 64 pixel tall
