Nations
DEFINITELY optional.
Would have different nationalities to choose from, some units only available for certain nations. So like hussar for Poland, Roman Legionaire and Roman Sagittarius for Rmome, et cetera.

Re: Nations
I think this would be cool as a gamemode, I have always wanted this.
I think as of now, we have: Russia/Poland (hussar), Germany (tuetonic knight), Hungary (hungarian hussar), Egypt (mamluke), Greece (Spartan), Rome/Italy (Centurion, saggitarus, legionairre), Celts (Celtic swordsman), Japan (samurai, ashigaru musket), Mongolia (Mongolian horse archer), Korea (Turtle Ship)... What have I missed? Maybe elephants/elephant archers could be something (persia)?

Re: Nations
It would be very enjoyable to play in this gamemode although the game wouldnbe extreamly unbalanced. Italy has infantry, ranged and calvary while the celts only has cheap swordsmen easily killed by the Roman troops.

Re: Nations
You don't NEED any of the special units to win though, you can have a very effective strategy with just the basic units (man-at-arms, banner bearers, and master skirmishers couod probably beat a roman army if used correctly, and romans have nothing to fight against a heavy knight charge), but the special units add a little bit of fun and style.

Re: Nations
Lol! I am not suggestibg they are similar or the same country, I'm saying they both made heavy use of light cavalry (hussars) and thus hussars should belong either to Poland or Russia, but we would need to choose which.

Re: Nations
So, is this an implementable idea? I assume this is something that could be very doable, considering we already have races in AoF.

Re: Cho-ko-nu (Chinese fire crossbowman)
My two pennies:
If the national game mode is coming, then were gonna need some nation specific troops. Like every nation gets fire-archer. Chinese can upgrade to Cho-ko-nu.
In other game modes, it doesnt matter

That's my thinking, Disco. I'm all for more national units for a nation gamemode. Although right now I don't think it has any support really, I think it will become a cooler and cooler idea with more national units.

Not necessarily. We could do thal like aoe did : many units are common, only a few unique unigs by nations and maybe general bonuses.

Exactly. There is nothing wrong with a nation only having 1-2 special units right now.Daniel (the dev) wrote:Not necessarily. We could do thal like aoe did : many units are common, only a few unique unigs by nations and maybe general bonuses.

How many countries are we looking at a minimum?
How many country specific troops we have implemented in game atm?
Just so we can maybe start moving forward, like a "think-tank"

I'll also post this in the relevant thread, as dont really want to hijack this one.

Re: Nations
Nice!
-I was thinking: 6 Nations (same as in Multiplayer)
-and 3 specific units (same as build-able Rome units in the game now)
How does that sound?

Re: Nations
Ah, sorry. Korea gets turtles then.
I still think if we are gonna do nations, we might as well do all of them. I don't see why we must stick to 6 nations.
For instance, lets say we have as the 6 nations: Rome, Japan, Hungary, Celts, Korea, and Germany.
What happens to Mongolian Horse Archers? Would they just not be buildable at all in nations gamemode? Thus, I think it is better that we have as many nations as we already have units for, and players can choose what units they want as their national units.

Id really like to hear more about the general bonuses too.

Yes, I agree. But please let's start with only 6 nations or you will kill yourself on itDoomCarrot wrote:Ah, sorry. Korea gets turtles then.

Re: Nations
Well, I think we only have 10-11 nations of special units so far. Can anyone else think of any others than:
1. Rome - Centurion, Legionairre, Saggitarus
2. Celts - Celtic Swordsman
3. Japan - Samurai, Ashigaru
4. Korea - Turtle Ship
5. Germany - Tuetonic Knight
6. Poland or Russia - Hussar
7. Hungary _ Hungarian Hussar
8. Egypt - Mameluke
9. Mongolia - Mongolian Horse Archer
10. Greece - Spartan Hoplite
11. MAYBE Persia - Elephant, Elephant Horse Archer
Also, if we implement 6 to start, which ones should be implemented first?

Re: Nations
If we do 10-11 that is 18 new units/images to find rather than >9 if we stick with 6. Let's start with the most complete nations for now so
Rome - all three
Japan - one needed - maybe the yari?
...
What should the general stat and bonus changes be for these? (i.e. swordsmen, archers, knights, etc.)
We also have crusaders, saracens, and egyptians in the map editor already
Mameluks were actually Ottoman (so Turkey mostly but also Egypt)
Winged Hussars in the game were Polish
Some "national" units in the game that are not exactly "national:
-elephant
-elephant archer
-horse archer
-longbow
These could be 're-skinned' as National?

Re: Nations
Well, I don't think we should have any units in Nations that are not implemented in game yet (saracens, etc).
Also, I don't think we should reskin normal units, and just leave them as common units, as that would be a lot of work.
Also, what do you mean by unit/images that we have to find? Are you thinking of flags, like AoF has shields for the factions? If so, I was imagining we could simply have the name of the nations to begin with.
