The Ornithopter Question - ANSWERED

Post by COOLguy »

Hello!

The ornithopter is a nice unit to play with, being one of the only units to cross mountains, and is very balanced, so it does not pay to build armies of them (because of archers). But how does it attack? It is superpowered against most land units, and they can inflict only 1 damage to it per attack. So is it fighting from the air? How? Does it use arrows, and if so, should it not be ranged? Or does it land to attack? Then if this is the case, why can melee units inflict 1 damage on it?

It seems to have a design inconsistency. Please tell me if I'm missing something.
Thanks!
Josh

Ok. Makes more sense now.
Could we have a unit glider that is just like the ornithopter, only it does not attack on its own but carries 1 troop? Like an airborne transport.
Thanks!

I second the idea of a glider that drops a unit. Since planes travel faster than boats in real life, the glider shouls be abke to travel faster than a boat unit.
Anything is feasible with enough money and power.

Well if they somehow landed how would they take off again? you cannot simply jump back into the sky :?

I think they are good just how they are--suicidal air strike units for striking important strategic targets or units that would pose a serious threat to your main force.

You are absolutely right DoomCarrot, I was joking when I should have been more serious. They are a must unit, and if it ain't broke don't fix it right ?

I would disagree. They are useful as far as they go: suicidal like speedy assassins. But they are extremely easy to counter. They can only be used against the unwary (can we say AI ;) ) or in large numbers.

Lol. Let us say that I have found many unwary multiplayers. :)

I now say that ornithopters are useful. However, no one has used them to seriously harm me ever in a game.
Thanks!

I personally use them more as a fear tactic then anything. Having a few orthnicopters around is enough to scare your opponent to make more ranged units. Then you come in with a cavalry/man-at-arms charge

Also, when someone has a massive fleet but not a warship in sight
