What is cool about age of strategy is that there is a huge array of units (all salute stratego) from many different times in history. This is fun but it is not realistic. My idea is that there would time restriction for some units. Like Romans are the ancient age temple knights are from the mid evil age. This would be a map making mode defined when you play.

You can already control the units being produced by the trigger effects that say, "remove all from production" and then "add unit to production."

yes you can. But for some of us that do not have the upgrades that are allowed, we can not produce anything. This would fix that by making it that you could produce any unit from that time period.

This solution might require some coding, but has more flexability.

Sorry, but you are the only one who knows how to code and put features in the game...
Could implement the feature for trigger effect: add unit to buildlist for playerNR1, to give players the ability to produce units and upgrades they do not posses.
