How about a unit that can clear trees and rocks. The cleared space becomes brown to walk on to build on. Clear trees in 2 moves and rock in 5 moves. The unit can also make elevated ground that a unit can use for increased defense points and increased attack points.

Daniel, what about ignore the elevation aspect and just have the clear option. Functionality wise, it would be like building bridges on water?

What about a buildable tile like "mountain path" that acts similar to the bridges that are on the maps. And arent one player specific like the ones that players build. And something similar called "open land" that can be built on forests, water, or mountains that can have buildings put on later. Something like "open land" would allow mechanical units move through forests too
