Germanic Berserker

Post by StormSaint373 »

Berserkers are extremely ferocious, aggressive, indomitable warriors with no thought for personal safety once the rage of battle comes upon them. They will use chants, strong drink, potions, rituals and even self mutilation to whip themselves into a fighting frenzy. Once the madness is upon them, little can stop them - their blood-crazed dash into the thick of combat is deeply disheartening (at best) to any who stand against them. They may try to cut their enemies to pieces in this state, but will think nothing of trying to gouge, bite, head butt and kick opponents to death as well.

They disdain armor as a sign of weakness, along with mercy, common sense and knowing when to stop fighting. They are supremely dangerous foes in close combat.

The unrivaled unit to literally break apart the enemy. Their combat ferocity is unmatched and they were the Pinnacle Elite unit of the barbarians during the times of Rome!

Do we need a berserker?

It could use a better name as one of the barbarians of ancient Europe.

It would be refreshing to see units with skills seen in AoF, maybe it can get it's attack increased each time it is attacked for the cost of -1 max HP. That way healers cannot turn this unit into a horrifying beast of madness... that may actually die from just 3 arrows.

Actually I was thinking that the Berserker would have a trample attack like the elephant. The problem for the Berserker is it is difficult to put out on to the field. But maybe an increase in maximum attacks...

Barbarians in history are always implementing offensive tactics, and the Berserker is the supposed to be the strongest of them all.

(I have played Total War and I have beaten every other unit in combat)
The Berserker is weak against 2 things:

Yes, the Berserker is weak versus arrows, but that is because barbarians don't wear armor... They are equipped in nothing but furs and warpaint, few have shields. But his hp should compensate.

He is also weak against the cavalry charges, barbarians are only light infantry. The only barbarians able to take on a cavalry unit is a barbarian spearman.

Besides... Barbarians will move to fast for the healers to keep up!

I could rename it to the Saxon Berserker, since that is the region that Germania is in. It is only a couple decades earlier in the space of history.

This is an answered topic, here is the answer. The Germanic Berserker has too many small effects that can't be implemented and without the small effects it is a pretty much useless unit.
A thousand may fall at your side,
And ten thousand at your right hand;
But it shall not come near you.
Only with your eyes shall you look,
And see the reward of the wicked.
