Lantern Shield

Post by Puss_in_Boots » Sun Dec 03, 2017 11:49 pm

A person during the medieval times could be walking about the rough paths of his town. His atmosphere is enshrouded with darknesses, and becomes more vulnerable to surprise. The morning pierces through the darkness. The next day unfolds, and the man is left penniless by the thugs of the night.
That person could've been carrying his own lantern shield to put forth illumination in place of where there is darkness. To combine weapons and defense to tackle any foe. He would be ready to take on the night on his own.

To define the quirks of this unit. The lights of his lanterns will give away it's location to the enemy in whichever place place of the map he is. With it's light, the lantern will help spot even stealthy units from 8 tiles away. Keep in mind this is the same sight as a catapult. With his swiss army knife array of weapons on his shield, he should not really be able to do much. However they can help him maintain a high amount of defense.

Stats:
Cost:4
Hp: 24
Attack:5
Armor:4
Pierce armor:2
Range:1
Speed:3
Sight:8
Action:1
This unit cannot be affected by blacksmith techs.

He has a bonus against primarily cheap and easy to make weapons, such as polearms, axes, maces, flails, slings, bows, and javelins.

He has 2 versions. He can turn on his lantern to see better at the cost of a turn and his location.
He can turn off his lantern to conceal his location at the price of 2 tiles of sight and am action.

Normally he should be trained with his lantern unlit.

His shield is not exactly big enough to stop arrows, but it may deflect slings. He is neither a soldier with speed on his side.

He is built to be a tactical use unit.

Cost:4?
I might lower some stats.
He might be too expensive for an armed civilian unit.

This is interesting, but I am not sure how to feel about 8 range of sight. Are lanterns THAT bright?

No not really. :!:

However, there are these siege weapons with the same sight or more. I mean can the operators really see that far? :D

It must be exaggerated for some sort of effect imo.

So exactly how does he atk? He can't bring out his knife if he is holding a lantern, he sounds more like a town patrol guard or something, who patrols during the night to sniff out sneaking thieves and spies

The armaments are in the shield. He doesn't carry knives.

The lantern is used in combat to mess with the attacker. He can be used as a patrol; not exactly an offensive unit.

Ow I get it swiss army knife array as in his shield is like a swiss army knife carrying different weapons, but even so a lantern in one hand and a shield in the other, how would he bring his weapons out in heat of battle?

The weapons do not have to be manually brought in and back like a real swiss army knife. The weapons are always out, so that the defender is always ready.

Do you mean the shield has a blade on the tip? I'm pretty sure there are shield like that.

The shield has a gauntlet with two thin blades on both sides of the knuckles. A long blade facing the same direction as the arm, and another one at the center of the shield facing outwards.

Only if they added a day and night cycle, which I'm sure isn't too hard to program.

So he could conceal himself, like a spy and assassin. sounds good, but he should have a small bonus against light cavalry.

Also can you refine your image a little bit.

Could you show something like brightness coming out from the lantern.
Also, keep cost 3,so that it would become useful to scouting purposes.

It is pretty decent, but his right arm (our left) looks like a gorilla arm lol

Yeah I noticed it, you made a bit too big. Try to take look at other units arms and use that as a reference. And also the head needs some work, I made an image but I'm not done with it.

Suggestion

If day night circle is in.

-Night= fog of war /-2 to all units sight -

This unit has - aura range 4 adds +2 sight to nearby units

Has first strike,
And full dmg on counter-ability

If can be done, visible by enemy in fog maps, revealing adjected tiles and self (like bone sight Aof - range 1)
