Possibly, once terrains are able to give specific bonuses to units on terrain other than speed.
That way a snowtrooper would be somewhat more effective on snow.

Ok. And then would they cost more than regular Stormtroopers?

Probably not, their stats would be too similar to other stormtroopers. They'd just benefit slightly from being on their corresponding terrain.

Well maybe biome oriented troopers should have lower stats than stormtroopers, but bonus on specific terrain tiles if the possibility is added. The ordinary ones will be more generalists.

Do you guys think that you could change the texture when they are on certain tiles instead of having 4-5 different versions of the same unit?

That does seem like the better way to go about it. Maybe after researching camoflauge tech both rebels and empire can change texture on tile and receive bonus defense on those tiles to make it stealable and worth researching.

That's a really great idea. Might cause some lag when using waypoints, but I think it'll be fine.
