I kinda like current one, but it may be pure sentiment. Let's see what we'll get.
Here's the image.

Re: Spartan Hoplite reskin
I was planning to change the spear shield and the helmet cause the spear looks like a club ( a really long club) the shield looks very odd and looks flat and the helmet is too much macedonian the classical spartan hoplite would look better (with the Ranking ontop of the helmet)
Edit: and I think I read that they have skirts

Re: Spartan Hoplite reskin
Why not a leather body armor? From what I know Spartans already used leather instead of the old bronze.

Kill me for taking the middle ground, but I don't think we should get too radical with unit redesign. It already looks good like it is, but few soft changes are enough to make it look polished and reminiscent of the old design.

Re: Spartan Hoplite reskin
If You mean Linothorax, the it was not made if leather, rather, as the name suggests from glued linen layers. It was half to 3/4 as effective, much more comfortable, transfered less heat to wearer and was probably used by hoplites, when army size went up (it's common agreement, that Linothorax was also cheaper).
There is however no reason to believe, that it couldn't have metal covering to increase defense (bronze) on wealthier citizens.
Re: Spartan Hoplite reskin
Maybe that's what it is. It would look more proper for a unit design for me if uses more color (no exaggeration off course). Also if I'm not wrong they didn't use bronze boots but just strap sandals.
Re: Spartan Hoplite reskin
Actually they used bronze greaves, often with feet cover.

Re: Spartan Hoplite reskin
You managed to lighten it up without messing 3d like effect. This bronze frame also adds character.
I just wonder if team colored helmet decoration is better.

Re: Spartan Hoplite reskin
Well, Tbh, the Greeks (Spartans Especially) were known for their phalanx formation... Which didn't even let enemies get close. Not even cavalry
But that formation was vulnerable on the sides and rear.

Re: Spartan Hoplite reskin IMPLEMENTED
I know spartans have a bonus to cavalry to 10% or 20% more damage.
Glory to doritos,remember.
Re: Spartan Hoplite reskin IMPLEMENTED
Hoplite doesn't have any bonus vs mounted and probably will not have any in the future.
Hoplite is representative Heavy Infantry.
It's category of units, which are rather strong defenders and their main counter is Heavy Cavalry.
It just doesn't make any sense to add bonuses against main counters.
Also after flail and mace nerf they are plenty strong already.
Flavor-wise we can look at it as hoplites using full capabilities of spear.
Normal spearmen are barely trained, so using spear they get huge damage only against mounted units, as they are easy target and often the only thing it takes to damage them is to point your spear in correct direction.
Most other enemies can avoid such clumsy attacks, so spearman regular damage is so low. Well, too lengthy weapon used in melee also adds to it.
Hoplites are elite, trained and often experienced spear wielders. They also use weapons a little better fit to melee. Shortcoming of shorter range is 36% lesser damage vs mounted (22 - 14).
