Catapults are even now balancing between good and overpowered unit. Upgrade for catapults would result into everybody building catapults and nothing else. Same goes for ornithopters. If you've not noticed yet, rams have already tons of health and are nearly immune to pierce attacks.

ornithopters: well in that time flying weren't discovered, so it is ok, for it to have low health.

catapults: as Mairon said they are nealy overpowered.

battering ram: they have strong armor, pierce attacks deal 1 damage to them, they can carry a few units, they have 180 hp. so they are between balanced and op.

I even consider Catapults to be OP, they have long range, high DMG and there's nearly no other unit that scales from early to late so well.

Instead it could be called improved wprkmanship and give transport ship and wagon more health or armour
