WWII Navies - Battleships OLD_TOPIC

Post by COOLguy »

Hello!
I would like to do some battleships next, but I need some questions answered first.

They obviously need to be larger than the destroyers but: 1) 2x1 is too awkward to use as a unit, 2) 2x2 - is it too big? I had thought carriers could be that big, 3) in which case, how far can I overlap to the right?

Also any suggestions or helps would be appreciated. :D
Thanks!
Josh

I think we should make it overlap in one side but dont use full 64x32 cavas for it
What color is your flag when it's burning?!

if you don't use 64*34 sized canvas, the game won't show the whole unit.
This is Hungary and winter is coming.

How far does the new AoS fortress icon overlap?
Is 48x32 (xy) a good size?
Thanks!

Here are some brief notes for me. :) I'll commence drawing soon (when I learn what size canvas).

Battleship notes

US

1 Wyoming - basic saw action end of WWI also; dreadnought era
2 Nevada - first standard type battleships; all or nothing armor; four turret gun arrangement
3 Tennessee - post Jutland; same design; better underwater hull protection
4 Iowa - fast battleships; speed and anti air

UK

1 Queen Elizabeth - considered first fast battleships
2 Revenge - also used WWI
3 King George V - Built with the expiration of Washington and London Treaties

GER

1 Deutschland - made obselete before completion with the launching of the HMS Dreadnought
2 Bismark - supposed super ship in class, largest in Europe but sunk by combination of Battleships cruisers and outdated torpedo bombers. Put to death the notion that the future of navies was in large battleships

USSR

1 Gangut - pretty bad but received modernizations throughout the war; improved AA did not help

FR

1 Dunkerque - built to counter German Deutschland but never saw action against them
2 Richelieu - built for the expiration of the limitations

ITA

1 Andrea Doria -
2 Littorio - Broke the limits set by the Washington and London Treaties

JAP

1 Kawachi - used in WWI and Sino-Japanese also
2 Kongo - most active class saw action Pearl, Midway, Guadalcanal
3 Fuso -
4 Ise - Differed in that they were modified to hybrid carriers
Thanks!

Oh I see. :)
They were scuttled before WWII though. When I make WWI Battleships I will include them.

Hi
We will take your units.
Please make some stats that are good for them that they are
Balanced...

Maybe hp 20-50 and power 10-30 with different bonuses.

Okie-Dokie. I'm on it! :)
It may take a little longer than a second. I'm also working on images, too.
Incidentally, are there stats for the Infantry units?
Thanks!

lol Thanks! :D
I use GIMP2. It's easy to use and has lots of effects (like rotate colors and the burn/dodge tool). It's interface is a lot like Tiled too. :)

Japan should have Yamato class battleships. They were biggest battleships ever even bigger than Bismarck class. Only 2 were built Yamato and Musashi.

Well a third one was completed, but as a converted aircraft carrier. The problem was that they had almost no action (I think only Leyte Gulf), and they would be almost too expensive to use in game.

I was thinking of using this class as a "hero" unit. Like in a scenario with the planned "super-Yamato". :)

But yes, they were the most powerful battleships ever built.

If yamato is "hero" why Bismarck isnt.

Re: WWII Navies - Battleships

Sorry for the late reply. Here is pretty much how my reasoning went:

1) Germans had only one other battleship for the game; The Japanese have four others
2) "Bismarck" as a ship will probably end up as a hero too (a separate unit than the buildable class)
3) The Bismarck class had more action than the Yamato class - both had 2 completed ships yet the Bismarcks had more action; the Yamatos ended looking more impressive on paper.
4) The Bismarcks were practically the only example of WWII German battleships (other than the pocket battleship Deutschlands): obviously they could not be left out; the IJN however had so many examples of their battleships that it was more of a question as to which to leave out. As the Yamato class were among the least numerous and had little impact on the war (also completed late, inferiorly than planned, and as a result the Ise was a better specimen of Japanese shipbuilding around the same time), they were left out, slated as a "hero" class.
5) If the game absolutely needs it, I can always draw it up later :)

Does this help and answer your question?
Thanks!

Closed topic.
A thousand may fall at your side,
And ten thousand at your right hand;
But it shall not come near you.
Only with your eyes shall you look,
And see the reward of the wicked.
