Hero mode or final fantasy type game. Possible?

A "fantasy" type game. For example. A campaign game where "you" are a single unit. Beggining alone as one hero, using special abilities. As you progress in the game you would reunite with other heros with different abilities. A small band of specialized units upgrading over time. And customizable upgrades would be cool also. In my mind the need for buildings that actually perform functions would be minimal.

I assumed I could, if I learned the intracacies of map design. But I was suggesting it for a more computer savvy player. . :) thanks for your feedback!

So..
Basically an RPG with more complex elements?
Do you have any ideas how you imagine it?
(I've been working one functions for rpgs quite a lot because I really like the mixture of rpg and strategy, so I may be able to help you with this.)

I like the idea. We should add a kill counter that raises counting the cost of unit you killedh and when you reach the right amount you can choose a new ability and spend some points increasing your stats.

We might use this for both campaign and for a random mode where you go on endlessly

This would be interesting.

There have also been some other suggestions for heroes/how they would work that were also good.

I think that is a good idea.But to do that we need some specific class and skill
For the unit example:Warrior,thief,bard,white mage,black mage,monk,etc
For the skill example:Double slash,Jump slash,Steal,Tri-arrow shoot,etc
Also we need a sub-menu like the shop menu,inventory menu,equip menu,map menu.world map(show the player,town)like on final fantasy.im sorry if my idea is not suitable for this gamemode.because im is only a newcomer
