What we are stuck on: The bridges have no way of knowing when it is connected to the ground. ie if it should be a northsouth bridge or a eastwest

Just makes a bridge that's start in the direction how it was built. Or make a tile that doesn't go in any direction but that might look flat.

Might simply b a bridge without any railings, they would b added as the next bridge is built

@Stratego (dev) I made a tileset with avalyn's bridges also a basic stone bridge. it is enough for player made bridges with maximum 1 tile width of the bridge, other bridge tilesets that can have unlimited width of bridge should b used in map editor.

@Lynx Shafir @Savra @General Brave and any other great artists in this forum, can any of u convert this tile set to wooden bridge? The fence needs dark wood colour, and the bridge needs colour of planks

Tough question... Try doing the first 3 images of tileset (the complete horizontal bridge) and deciding for urself...
But IMHO, the first one gives vibe of really 'ancient wooden bridge' while second one gives impression of the deck of a newly built ship, try to give the first image a more contrasting fence (may b darker or completely different colour) and see where it goes...

by the way bottom set wont b added for the unit bridge, it will implemented later as map editor auto tile, and the pink squares will b replaced by wooden blocks, same for stone bridge. (This way we can implement both horizontal and vertical bridge which would depend on connection to land terrain)
