AOW / AOS / AOF online multiplayer testers

Post by Stratego (dev) »

Hi!

in last few days i have been working on "online" multiplayer support.
meaning the game area will NOT close when your turn is ended, but game waits for other players turn to finish, and meanwhile it shows you their movements!

it is in very-very alpha version but i still need testers to pile up all the problems we have already.

please write here is you are interested in testing
rules
- only dev version will have this modification so dev version users are welcome
- only passworded games can be created
- only with partners who is actually online with you (or if u have multiple phones you can test too all alone)
- i will ask bug reports here in updated posts (so you update your own post and only with prolems you do not see in other's post - not sure it will work fine :)

dont dorget only player with dev version will work only at the moment, other players will be waited long till timeout and will not be any connection to that player online moves.
you can use the back button to exit from the waiting game.

write here so we can see how many of yours are in / interested. thanks!

Known problems
- kicks and skips are unknown how will they behave
- need to chekc vanished units if they are transferred to other devices.

thanks!

Report from AoF

I'll explain what happened:

1. I made a game (Fog of war enabled)
2. I entered it
3. Everything randomly started glitching, the message "This is not your turn, you can only observe", and I think turns were automatically skipping and all that kept infinitely repeating until my friend joined, did and finished his turn. When he moved his worker camera switched to him and there were glitching tiles.
4. After he finished the turn whole map (Not screen) blacked out for him. And he couldn't press any button at all.
5. Everything was stalled for me, I exited and entered again and only then it was my turn.

Overall it was a very frustrating and confusing experience.

anyone testing it?
in AOF we have the first version published in google play to test .

please write here the problems

Also suggestions about what should be do to make the "waiting side" less boring
a) more events: eg. what event should be "broadcasted" (eg. as other players scrolling here and there?)
b) chat: i think an online chat would help a bit to communicate while waiting
c) parallel playing: i think some things could be accepted for the waiting player to do also
1. setting secondary productions
2. setting waypoints/production waypoints
3. opening buildings/carriers to see their contents (no changing in it naturally, garrison order either)
4. ?
b) or popping up hints: popping up good hints about the game ? (eg. you can modify secondary production while you are waiting lol)

anyithing else in your mind?

From my experience it's actually great, super great to say, just that it doesn't work the same way when you watch an ai's turn.

When you resigned, nothing bad happened. To say its normal is okay. I can't remember the exact details but I just remembered that what happen look normal.

If there is still no people besides you in the game, when you load the game, it will load and load and load again.

What I mean is that the yellow bar (loading indicator?) Will pop up and pop, again and again.

You already get this right?

My suggestions are:

1. Allow players to click on units but not do anything with them when not their turn (Somehow like in map editor)

2. Allow players to see and send messages while not their turn

3. Add an option where your camera isn't forced to move view to unit that just attacked/moved/built.

4. Try to reduce lag after someone or AI ends turn, IF possible.

If I continuesly move my screen while the other player is turning, it would not go to my turn when the other player end his turn. I have to then quit the game and load it again.

Bug: Sometimes when player ends turn it reverts him or her back to the beginning of same turn. But this happens very rarely.
