LOTR-Campaign too difficult - IMPLEMENTED

Post by Wormtongue »

Hello Team,
the maps of this campaign are fantastic, but imo the fellowship is clearly underpowered. None of them can beat a whimpy Uruk - three hits and everyone of my team drops dead. For example even with his three shots Legolas is not able to kill a lousy wolf raider and the Hobbits and Gandalf are complete useless -wish instead of them I had a descent knight or so.
Mainly for that reason I got hefty problems especially with these four maps:

The weathertop: Got absolute no idea, how to beat it. Aragorn is always dead after three hits - and the hobbits after one. Is there some sort of trick involved? Tried it a hundred times and in the end there were at least two nazghules alive and Aragorn dead.

The Uruk-Hai map has many bugs. Very often the ships and their boarded units disappear, and sometimes the ship glides over the grass. When you don´t come to near, the Uruks won´t move, so I can kill them easily from the distance one by one with Legolas - but thats good, cause otherwise, that means in Close Combat the complete Fellowship couldn´t stand against four of them.

Moria and Escort to Helms Deep are far too difficult too, the Fellowship is simply totally underpowered. Gimli for example is as weak as a simple foot soldier and dead after three hits and I think Boromir and Aragorn are weaker than a simple knight.
So please give the fellowship some strength - otherwise nearly no one will play and appreciate this realy nice campaign.

Best regards
Wormtongue -am I eventually involved as well? :-)

The first map is very easy. There is one trick. When your characters move into the camp, you have to go right to the Nazgul Sem. And only then gain Triger

I have no problem with the campaign except for Moria. But I agree that LoTR characters are too weak.

thx for the tip constantin - i just tried it and had again no chance: When I go right the nahzgul surround and kill me at once, and that in between two or three rounds - I am simply to slow and can´t get past them before they block my way on all sides. I tried it with Aragorn and with the whole -group. Both with absolute no success.

But (with my last dying glimpse) I see on the right corner a poison archer, who is doing nothing and is greyed out?!?
thx again

I forgot: when I pass the fire there comes a textbox about "nazgul fear fire..." or so, but that doesn´t change anything

thank you so much - I tried it, but again: that didnt change anything:
The textbox popped up, the nazgul came and again simply killed my frontman - nevertheless if I attack, stand still, put Aragorn at the front, try to flee, retreat Sam, go up or down with the team or whatever. Same as usual: As soon as one nazgul comes in contact with one of my fellows, I have lost - the Hobbits die at once and Aragorn after two turns.

thank you very much for your support, but I decided to resign I have tried EVERY single pattern I could reach before the nazgul killed me - with absolute no success.
This map very urgently needs a design-fix or at least a VERY good hint in the description, cause I think no one will try it more often like me. Because of that and the errors and hight difficulty degree in the next two maps the majority of the players will surely skip the complete campaign.

And thats really a shame, cause it has such a beautiful map-design and interesting story.

Best regards and thx again

I'm going to remake stats for those units.

These are the current stats,

I will also remake the stats for nazguls since they are intended as boss units (they need to scale with heroes),

suggestions:
give Gandalf an offensive spell,
give Aragorn an additional bow and a heal-ability (kings weed)
turn Gimli into an axe-thrower and give him a far better armor
power up the attack of all

Individualize the four hobbits (until now they are just four identical cannonfodder-whimps):
give Frodo better armor (mithril), an invisible spell (ring) and a irresitable sneak attack (sting)
how about turining Sam into a distant fighter (throwing seeds, ropes or pans)
give Pippin and Merry a descent knife attack and maybe a sneak-option (their capes), powerup their armor or their health so they could stand a fight

and speed them all up a bit - especially the hobbits

maybe Frodo could every three turns activate the ring to get a temporary far better range - eventually hit and run could be nice for the hobbits to cover their weakness

The ring effect is invisibility. He should be invisible to any unit but nazguls

I have a serious problem with the heroes stats... they are all so weak. I suggest
Hobbits
+5 attack (elven blades)
+10 health
Frodo to have a crap ton of armour (mithril mail)
Gains ability to stun enemies after lorien.

Aragorn
+12 attack (Andüril)
+20 health
Athelas (+15 hp with 2 cooldown)

Boromir
+8 attack (badass)
+20 health
+1 armour(pierce and melee, shield)

Gimli
+6 attack (beard)
+25 health (beard)
+1 melee armour (beard tangles weapon)

Gandalf
+20 attack (Glamdring)
+20 health
Some area affect attack spell at melee range(wizard blast or something)

Legolas
Attack +4
Hp +15
(Slight +7 hp heal ability: lembas)
Many years ago I suggested this

And as for Weathertop.
All you need to do is make Sam go to the fire. That will boost Aragorn enough to slaughter the ringwraiths.
And I swear that the text box I put in their told you to do that

And I swear I did that: I moved Sam beside the fire and the textbox came up, so far so good. But it didn´t boost Aragorn in any way:

After the textbox, when I do nothing, the nazgul comes and simply kills Sam with one hit. When I place Aragorn before Sam to shield him, one single Nazgul kills Aragorn with two or three hits without getting seriously hurt. ( and thats just ONE Nazgul, several other nazguls are waiting behind him, so I got absolutely no chance to survive)

So If there is a trigger, it doesn´t work for me.

But I got several other weird glitches, like the crusade healer, who can only heal himself - or that I cannot summon dragons or blood golems - all this worked fine until last spring. I think in summer one of the updates corrupted some of the unit-abilities, at least for my system. I reinstalled the game several times, but these errors occured again and again. Strangely enough AoS runs perfect on my system.

Dude I legit 2 minutes ago went over the triggers, saw nothing wrong, and played the map.
Trigger worked, got +15 attack +12 armour for Aragorn

sorry I don´t want to annoy you. I am really very thankful for this beautiful campaign, I just precisely described what happened on my tablet.
And I just tried it again: Its correct, that Aragorn gets the described bonus, I checked that, but: that makes absolutely no difference (because of that I didn´t notice it before). With or without bonus - Aragorn is dead after three or maximal four nazgul-hits and when three nazgul are still standing!!! Aragorn needs four or five hits (i.e. 2-3 turns) to kill just one nazgul and after that he is barely alive - but in the meantime the nazguls will hit him additional four to six times - and thats more than enough to kill him two times... I tried it as a test without triggering the bonus and the outcome was exactly the same - Aragorn dies after 2 er 3 turns

And indeed, the Hobbits get a shield + 10 bonus, but this also makes absolute no difference: even with this bonus they drop dead after one hit and they are completely unable to scratch a nazgul

But don´t mind, I will just skip that one. Maybe remember me, when other players are arguing about the same thing :-)
