Yes that is more important than the sword. The shield is being held at an odd angle.

What do you suggest then? Should i just edit the shielder?

Maybe check the aof icon list and try to find some unit which is in correct orientation to the shield
Else finally edit the shild itself to be in line with the soldier

Checked. also the swordman face exactly the same as other units, so it is mostly a impression you've got

Its not the face , its the stance which is wierd. The shield is exactly vertical while the holder is a bit tilted

Yes, I don't know what is causing it exactly, but I think TheBluePhoenix is right about how it looks.

implemented but
1. i think wee need icon change:
- now the defender icon looks very similar to shielder.
-> i suggest a different "shiled painting" for the defender that will be enough to good differentiation.

2. also we have no "tech" icon for the upgrade.
